Build confidence and grow your skills with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Girlguiding.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is an internationally recognised challenge for young people. If you’re 14 to 24 (or 13 in the school year you turn 14), you can complete this fantastic challenge as part of your guiding experience, either as a member or as an external volunteer.

Young external volunteer

Carry out the volunteering section of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at your local Rainbows, Brownies or Guide unit as a young volunteer.

You don’t have to be female. Anyone aged 13-17 who is working towards an externally recognised award can become a young external volunteer, for the time needed to complete the volunteering section of the award.

Girlguiding members

DofE fits in closely with many of the other awards and qualifications available to you through guiding, in particular the Queen’s Guide award. For each level there are 4 sections: volunteering, physical, skills-development and an expedition. You’ll also need to take part in a residential event for the Gold level.
